Developing green logistics, quickly adapting to global trends
On the afternoon of July 9th, the Vietnam Logistics Services Association (VLA) in collaboration with Business Forum Magazine organized the "Discussion on Developing Green Logistics, Rapid Adaptation and Announcing FIATA World Congress 2025".
Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh - Vice President of Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) spoke at the seminar

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), said that green growth and sustainable development are inevitable, irreversible requirements and a common global trend in the current period. The National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, has set the goal of "greening" economic sectors, promoting economic restructuring associated with growth model innovation, environmental sustainability and social equity. In which, tasks are assigned to relevant ministries and branches in "developing green logistics" including green logistics centers and green ports.…

To implement this Strategy, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 882/QD-TTg approving the National Action Plan on Green Growth for the 2021-2030 period, in which logistics services are one of the 18 key topics of the Plan.eute Loaded: 17.87%.

According to Vice President Nguyen Quang Vinh, a survey by the Business Council for Sustainable Development of VCCI has shown that transforming supply chains and value chains towards a more sustainable direction is one of the trends that the international business community is very interested in and giving priority to. Green supply chain management is closely linked to the management of its links, including green design, green production, green operations, green procurement, green logistics, waste management... When those links are all "green", businesses will be able to improve production capacity, operational capacity, and at the same time form a green, sustainable ecosystem around the business, thereby creating competitive advantages and increasing the ability of businesses to adapt, withstand, and recover from market shocks.

From that requirement, developing green logistics is no longer a trend but gradually becoming an inevitable requirement for activities throughout the stages of purchasing raw materials, production, distribution, delivery, waste treatment, and the entire product life cycle. Resolution No. 163/NQ-CP of the Government on promoting the synchronous implementation of key tasks and solutions to enhance competitiveness and develop Vietnam's logistics services has also identified "logistics development associated with sustainable supply chains".

Sharing about FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025, from the perspective of representing the business community, Vice President Nguyen Quang Vinh hopes that this event will be an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to exchange and cooperate with thousands of leading logistics businesses in the world. At the same time, it is an opportunity to affirm the position of the Vietnamese logistics industry in particular and promote the image of the country and Vietnamese people in general in the international arena. At the same time, it indirectly opens up opportunities to increase import and export, improve competitiveness for businesses, enter new markets and value chains, contributing to the development of Vietnam's economy.

Mr. Le Duy Hiep, Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Services Association (VLA), said that building a sustainable and adaptable logistics industry is urgent and an inevitable trend.

Mr. Le Duy Hiep said that VLA has successfully won the right to host the 2025 Annual Congress of the World Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations - FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025. This is an important and largest event of the global logistics industry, attracting the participation of thousands of delegates from businesses, experts and leaders of the logistics industry from all over the world.

The successful organization of this event will be a great opportunity to enhance the image and position of the Vietnamese logistics industry in the international arena, while opening up many cooperation and business opportunities for domestic enterprises.

Green logistics is also the main theme of the FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025 event, "Developing green logistics, adapting quickly", reflecting our vision and commitment to building a sustainable, environmentally friendly logistics industry, and able to adapt quickly to changes in the global market.

The Chairman of VLA affirmed that this is not only an urgent requirement in the current context but also an inevitable trend for the long-term development of the industry. Developing a green supply chain is no longer a story of the future, but must be right now, no longer a choice but a necessity. Developing a green supply chain is also a necessary change, associated with the goal of reducing net emissions to 0% (net zero) that Vietnam committed to at COP 26.

From the business perspective, Mr. Ngo Sy Hoai - Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (VIFOREST) said that with abundant human resources, raw materials mainly supplied from domestic cultivation, wood production and processing enterprises have taken advantage of the domestic seaport transport system, especially in areas with favorable logistics such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City.

In recent years, the Vietnamese wood industry has risen to the 5th position in the world in terms of exports and the 2nd position in the group of high value-added wood products. Wood exports have reached 170 markets in the world, of which the 5 markets of the US, Japan, China, Korea and EU account for over 90% of export turnover.

However, according to Mr. Hoai, wood products are quite specific and have the characteristic of being more bulky than other products, and the cost of sea transport is very high. There are people who believe that the value of the goods in the container is only equivalent to the cost of transportation. Therefore, the Vice President of the Wood Association said that the green transformation of the logistics industry is one of the factors that determine the success or failure of the wood industry.

In addition, wood is also a very "sensitive" product to the environment, so establishing green processing, green trade and green growth is also very urgent at present. The expert expects that the FIATA congress with the resources and potential of the wood industry and improved logistics conditions towards greening will create further conditions for the wood industry to develop sustainably.

Sharing at the discussion, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade said that green transformation in the logistics industry needs to focus on energy conversion with energy-using vehicles. This is still a difficult and challenging problem for businesses. Currently, small passenger vehicles have initially switched to using renewable energy. However, large freight and transport vehicles have not yet converted to renewable energy.

At the same time, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai added that businesses also need to improve performance and efficiency in the working process. This is also a factor contributing to improving the ability to adapt quickly in the new context.

Finally, management agencies and the Government need to facilitate trade, simplify administrative procedures, and create maximum conditions to support businesses in the process of digital transformation and green transformation.
